Today I looked up and caught Jenny and Daniel (credit control manager) touching each other in full view of everyone.

He had his arms around her waste and actually kissed her on the neck, while she seemed to be enjoying it.

I then quickly put my head down before they noticed me staring.

 One word – Inappropriate!

Daniel is supposedly happily married with 3 young children and Jenny’s in a long term relationship with some guy who looks like he could be her younger brother.

This is just weird…

My colleague Jenny Gold seemed like a nice lady. Funny and helpful but she now makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable, because what came out of her mouth today was totally inappropriate!

Jenny is good “friends” with Verna. Verna works for the customer services department, and is a black lady in her (I’m guessing here) mid-late 40s.

The two get on like a house on fire. Verna often visits our department and can be heard cracking jokes with Jenny.

Anyway today I happened to overhear Jenny talking to Verna on the phone. And amongst the raucous laughter/whispering Jenny called Verna a ‘ stupid black bitch’, and then laughed out loud.

I’m not sure if anyone else in the office heard but I sure as hell did!

Now I’m guessing that Verna doesn’t have a problem with being called a ’black bitch’. That it’s all just playful racial slur banter and that Jenny’s only joking.

I am also guessing that this isn’t the first time that Jenny’s called her a ‘black bitch’.

I could feel myself burning up inside but kept my cool, and continued doing my work.

If Verna’s happy to be called a ‘black bitch’ because she naively believes its being said in jest then good luck to her.

But Jenny will get the side eye treatment from now on…..

My first week here at ****** telecommunications has flown by and so far so good! My duties are pretty simple. They consist of answering customer enquiries/complaints via email, cancelling customer direct debits using the company’s house database programme and assisting my manager when called to do so.

It isn’t exactly taxing or stressful either, which is good, because I don’t do stress.

My new colleagues seem like nice people. They are all relatively young and the atmosphere in the office is vibrant and fun. I can honestly say that I have NEVER laughed this much within a working environment.

However it is still early days…….

——————————————-

I’ve sort of bonded with Sarah Jane who has been assigned to show me the ropes. She is from Liverpool and seems really cool, but eats like a horse. Every morning this week Sarah has munched away on a large bacon, egg and sausage sandwich washed down with a Diet Coke. Then for lunch it’s KFC or a quarter pounder, chips and large chocolate milk shake from the local Wimpy.

Throughout the day she can also be seen snacking on chocolates, crisps (Walkers Ready Salted seems to be a favourite), and Mr Kiplings Cherry Bakewell tarts. You would expect Sarah to be as big as a house but she is 6ft tall and skinny.

It’s bizarre!

FIRST DAY

June 26, 2009

So today I start my new job. I now work for a City based telecommunications firm, and my job is to assist a diverse team of credit controllers in a “fun” but busy and sometimes intense environment.
